With an early start on an overcast day MTS’s C team came up against the G Force team. Winning the toss, we chose to bat first on what appeared to be a good wicket. The early wicket of Rien Dattani to a quality catch put us in a difficult position. Viraj Birla joined the already settled Aaron Scott at 3, and the pair impressed. Taking time to get settled in, they both played some excellent shots to construct an 80-run partnership. Viraj contributed 39 runs and Aaron made an impressive 51 as they batted for 2 grueling hours in the heat. Both innings demonstrated high-class batting and showcased their discipline and patience at the crease which was truly inspirational to watch. After their dismissals, our middle and lower order faced the talented spinner Jain who took a hat trick. Ayush Gupta's quick 7 runs late in the innings were vital. Despite an impressive bowling effort from G Force, we stumbled to 138. Hoping to defend our total, we took the field with optimism. For most of the match we fielded well, capitalizing on opportunities. With a quick start, G Force fired 27 runs in the 5 overs before lunch. After the break, Neev Halai was brought into the attack, taking two quick wickets to put us ahead. Spinners Hector Lamb and Barnaby Greet Smith bowled predominantly in the middle overs, controlling play. Each took a wicket, bowling 9 disciplined overs to keep us in a strong position, although G Force remained strongly in the game. Rien Dattani and Darrow Beck bowled the final overs, both taking wickets. With the extras accumulating over the innings and the great batting of the G force’s middle over they reached the total with four overs to spare. Ultimately, despite the loss, every MTS player had moments of brilliance and was a great learning experience for all of us. A big thank you to Mr McGowan and Mr Wilson for all of there help from umpiring to coaching.
